Besides providing fair wages for our staff, we facilitate constant training in food safety and managerial related skills, and organize workshops on health and HIV issues.
Eswatini Kitchen employs women from different backgrounds from around the country. Amongst our staff we have Lizzy Dlamini (kitchen supervisor) from central Swaziland at Makholweni in Fairview. She started out as a casual employee in 1996 and was made permanent in 1997. She is a single mother raising three children. As a supervisor she is responsible for recipe development, inventory storage and usage as well as hygiene and safety at workplace. She loves the idea of knowing that her input in at the work place benefits not only her as an employee, but also the support other communities and ensures that consumer attain a delicious high quality product. Since she has been part of the company, Lizzy has developed numerous practical skills which include Food processing, Food safety and hygiene as well as food preservation. She loves her job and appreciates the skills she acquires on the job as she also points out that she has a plan to get a portion of land where she can build a home for her children and also be able to cultivate a garden for herself as she only depends on her salary for survival.
Fikile Shabangu has been with Eswatini Kitchen since 2002 and, like Lizzy, she also started out as a casual employee and worked her way to being confirmed permanent worker. She is a bread winner and looks after her elderly mother in one household at her parental home in Madonsa , Manzini where she lives with 4 children (one of whom is her sisters?child). Her salary is her only source of income and she utilizes it between the two homesteads in as much as it also has to cater for her children’s tuition. Her main role is to ensure maximum and quality production within her line. She loves her job and the idea that it makes her of service to a global community and that through her job she has gained knowledge and experience with regard to keeping a hygienic environment for handling food. Their experiences become an intricate part of their lives even after work as they also strive to keep hygienic environments at home as well as food processing expertise.
